Q: What are the chances of a sixteen year old foreigner getting into an Amsterdam coffee shop?
Traveling to Amsterdam this spring
wondering if they check ids or anything. Im Canadian btw
also what is the best strain of weed to get? I get anxious alot from weed, but don’t want to say I’ve been to Amsterdam and NOT smoked weed. Is space cake more relaxing?
A: You won’t get in, believe me! Everyone that looks under 20 will be asked to show some ID (as you might know the legal age is 18). I’m not going to give a minor advice on what drugs he should use, it’s illegal. Space cake is certainly not the way to go, as it will have a very unpredictable effect on the user.
Don’t feel obligated to use weed just because you’re in Amsterdam. Just because you’re ‘allowed’ (it’s not legal) to use it here in The Netherlands, doesn’t mean that everybody uses it. I believe less than 20% of all the Dutch people have experimented with drugs and that’s not more than in any other country. You’ll see that almost all the people using the coffee shops are tourists, natives don’t really have the urge. Amsterdam is so much more than just drugs and prostitution and you’ll have the opportunity to explore while you’re sober.
Remember that it is just as illegal for you to use weed as it is in your own country! Don’t try to break the law, cause trouble miles away from home is even harder.
Q: How difficult is it to open a Coffee Shop in Amsterdam?
I always wondered what type of paperwork is needed to open a coffee shop in amsterdam. Does anybody know of any limitations, restrictions and all around bad stuff like that?
A: Well you have a number of problems with this
The first is licencing. The local authorities are not issuing new licences (already for some years) and so opening a new one is not going to happen. Also someone does cease business, then the licence is also not re-issued to a new person.
I did read once about someone stating that he had “brought into” as a partial owner, presumably with the licence remaining with the existing owner.
The supply chain behind the supply to coffeeshops is not legal and nor does it have the “tolerated” status that coffeeshops have. Therefore whilst of course it takes place, it is still in the background and part of a network society. Unless you have contacts then it is exceptionally difficult to enter. It is not that you just pick up the yellow pages to find suppliers.
Any premises in Amsterdam is costly, but business ones are exceptionally expensive. Even when one does become available then you would have to check things like it’s location to local schools, and have won the lottery in the meantime :0)
If you do not hold an EU/EEA passport, then you cannot just move over and start a business anyway. You would have to obtain a visa to be self-employed. However, to get this, you would have to prove that the business is of fundemental interest to the Dutch economy and it states on the official documents that cafe’s and such like are not considered as such. Q: What are acceptable forms of ID in an Amsterdam Coffee Shop?
Will either my passport or provisional driver’s license be okay?
A: You need a passport to be presented at immigration on entry. However to meet the compulsory identification requirement in the country the Driving Licence from EU/EEA countries suffices. You need to present the original document, a photocopy is not accepted.

Q: How much does an Amsterdam coffee shop pay for a kilo?
A: hehhe… most people above don’t know s*** about it! selling weed to a coffeeshop is illegal (even in the Netherlands) so contracts or recognized sellers do NOT exist. The owners of coffeeshops are in trouble if they sell someone more then 5 grams (so.. not
however if you just buy 5 grams, and return half an hour later probably will sell you 5 grams again (some even sell you more then 5 grams a time, but only if they “know” you, like when you come there once or twice a week)
The owners of coffeeshops buy the drugs from people they know, if someone offers them weed they just test it them self and if they think its a good quality they’ll buy it.
I’m not to sure about the prices they pay, but since an average weed costs around € 5,- a gram a kilo has a sells value of € 5000,- so.. it say they pay somewhere between € 1000,- and € 2000,- a kilo (so they have profit)
Q: Legal age to buy weed in a coffee shop in Amsterdam?
Hey
me and 6 of my friends are going next year (june 10) to a eurotrip
we are starting in Amsterdam and i want to know that if ill be 17 and my 18th bday is in august will i be able to buy weed in a coffee shop? or at least smoke their with my friends who will already be 18?
also the same about alcohol (and also in berlin?)
thank u!
A: Well the age to both enter and to purchase a coffeeshop is 18, and to be honest, given that, it doesn’t matter if you will be 18 in 2 months, the fact is that you are a minor
By entering/purchasing, then you are jepodising the licence of the coffeshop.
Therefore minors trying to sneak in are not appreciated by locals, and also in most/all coffeeshops then unless you are clearly 18, you will be ID checked. So no you will not be able to buy, and you really should think twice about jepodising the freedoms for others just for the sake of 2 months. Read this for more http://lem.localinet.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6416
Now I know that sounds a bit harsh and high & mighty, but what perhaps you don’t know is that for a number of years already there have been a constant pressure on closures of coffeeshops, and things like getting caught with minors on the premises is an easy way to close a coffeeshop. So that’s the background to it.
Drug tourism is also becoming a hot potato and as a result people are once again discussing the policies in the Netherlands because of abuse of the policies (this is more in the borders of the country, but any change still would be effective nationwide)
Regarding alcohol, well you can drink beer & wine up to 15% proof when you are 16. It is only spirits and beer/wine >15% proof that you have to be 18 for. So this is better news for you at least
As for Berlin, well I’m not sure how lenient they are to be honest.
Q: If I order coffee in an amsterdam coffee shop, will i recieve coffee?
A: They may ask if you want something extra though, just like in UK they ask if you want milk etc! But you’ll definately get a great cup of coffee too.
Q: What coffee shop in Amsterdam do you think has the best hash/weed?
I’m traveling to Amsterdam and was wondering if anybody has any favorite coffee shops or/and favorite weed/hash:)
A: the gray area is a pretty good coffee shop it has won several cannabis cup awards but don’t be afraid to be a bit more adventures if you go to some of the more hole in the wall places you can find some amazing weed and hash it will get you blazed out of your fucking mind.
Q: how would you go about buying or renting coffee shop in amsterdam?
I am after coming into some money an looking to set up a business an woundering how i would go about buying coffee shop in amsterdam ;eg; laws, getting supplys, how hard is it, expenceses i will await your comments Thank you
A: Well you have a number of problems with this
The first is licencing. The local authorities are not issuing new licences (already for some years now) and so opening a new one is not going to happen. Also someone does cease business, then the licence is also not re-issued to a new person. This is specific to Amsterdam.
I did read once about someone stating that he had “brought into” as a partial owner, presumably with the licence remaining with the existing owner, but not outright and therefore you would have to find a person and also ensure your legal rights are protected accordingly.
The supply chain behind the supply to coffeeshops is not legal and nor does it have the “tolerated” status that coffeeshops have. Therefore whilst of course it takes place, it is still in the background and part of a network society which is notoriously difficult to enter into unless you have the “right” contacts. It is not that you just pick up the yellow pages to find suppliers.
Any premises in Amsterdam is costly, but business ones are exceptionally expensive. Even when one does become available then you would have to check things like it’s location to local schools, and have won the lottery in the meantime :0)

Q: What’s the name of this song? Heard it in an Amsterdam coffee shop about a year ago…?
I was in this coffee shop and this folky song was playing. It started folky but turned into a little bit of rock. The only thing I really remember, lyric wise, is this dialog between an old man and a boy. The old man says something like “back in south dakota… something about mountains…” and the kid says, “what about the tree?” or something to that nature.
Can’t find it anywhere on the internet, you either know of it or not. It’s been bugging me hard for the past year.
A: I’m Sorry Will…It reminded me of a song I heard back in the 1970’s but after I checked those lyrics I found it not to be the one you were looking for. I have researched all of my resources/catalogs/DJ’s and have not been able to find the song/lyrics you were looking for. I wish I could have helped you. Good Luck!
I also couldn’t find them at any of the websites below:

Q: Do you have to be of a specific age to go into an Amsterdam “Coffee Shop?”?
I’m planning on going to Amsterdam later on in the year; I’m 17 years old. Do you have to be of a specific age to go into a hash bar?… like 18 and over or 21 and over?
Since I’m 17, what can I do in Amsterdam that can be “fun?” Lol. I really want to go into a coffee shop, but I don’t know the age limits.
What about “candy stores?” Lmao (whore houses…).
What can a damn 17 year-old (non-Dutch speaking…) tourist DO in Amsterdam?
Thank you!
I’m not talking about age of consent laws… lmao.
I want to know how a hash-smokin’ hippie 17 year-old can have some fun in Amsterdam. Lmaoo.
If I were to walk into a “coffee shop” and order some Northern Lights, will they ask to ID me? What’s the age to buy some hash?
A: IF you look your age then forget about going into a coffeeshop. If you can pass for older you MAY be able to sneak in and buy some w/out getting carded. ALL coffeeshops though can only sell to 18 and over…but with all laws they are broken.
Legal drinking age is 16 so you’re straight there.
and a “damn 17 year-old (non-Dutch speaking…) tourist” can do TONS in Amsterdam…you just have to be open minded.
Rent a bike and discover the city. Check out all the random galleries and shops. I higly recommend the Anne frank House, Rijks museum and Van gogh.
Q: Best Amsterdam coffee shop to visit?
I am a little experienced in smoking but my girlfriend is not what would you recommend to order when we go and what was your favorite shop in town.
A: To be honest you would be better off placing this question in a forum more specialised in smoking & coffeeshops.
The Amsterdam Coffeeshop Directory site has a section with all the coffeeshops in Amsterdam with details, and reviews from people having visited them recently http://home.freeuk.net/coffeeshop/Directory.html
Then on the same site is a forum where you can ask questions and get answers as well and it’s all about coffeeshops and thus more people with knowledge http://lem.localinet.co.uk/phpBB2/
Good luck
Q: Can you take the weed you buy in Amsterdam coffee shops to your hotel?
For anyone who’s been to Amsterdam or known somebody who’s been can you take the weed you buy in coffee shops back to your hotel or out of the coffee shop period? or do you have to stay in the coffee shop you bought it in?
Also, how old do you have to be to buy in coffee shops there?
A: Yes you can take the weed out of the coffeeshop, but the majority of hotels have a smoking ban on tobacco (which is law unless they have a specific smoking room) and also in the rooms. Some also include weed in this and say no smoking full stop
Of course smoking in the coffeeshop is a relaxed environment where no-one is going to move you on, whereas if you go to a normal bar you are likely to get asked to refrain, and that goes for public areas especially where there are kids and people who don’t like it.
However people do find somewhere quiet, away from the crowd, like in a quieter area of a park to have a smoke and are rarely bothered
You have to be 18 to enter as well as buy in a coffeeshop and yes, you will get ID checked.
Q: Is there a coffee shop in Amsterdam that has a vapouriser?
The question is extremely self-explanatory. I travel to Amsterdam fairly often, but I am a long distance runner so I like to use cannabis without damaging my lungs. Please help.
A: I was there in May and went to Rookies they had a vapouriser
Q: If you owned a coffee shop in Amsterdam what would you name it?
remember in Amsterdam, its not the coffee they focus on its the weed lol.if you had a coffee shop in ams how would you decorate it?
A: “Stoner Joe’s”
Q: amsterdam coffee shop?
hey guys
im looking for any links to maps/directions that you can give me to the la chocolata coffee shop in amsterdam? ive been to amsterdam 3 times now but i can never seem to find it tho ive found every other one easily! (maybe im jus too stoned lol)
if u can give me directions from either the acro hotel or the amstel botel that would be even better.
thanks x
leigha…… yeah hun, dont go too cheap cos a lot of the time they are hostels with shared dormitories/ bathrooms.
so hotel wise, id reccomend the acro, nice little hotel in a decent place with a good brekkie or the amstel botel (a floating hotel!) which is right next to the train station, and a nice floating restaurant ”the sea palace”. its also not 2 far from all the coffee shops etc..
the hans brinker hostel is cool 2…i know i said hostel lol! but its dirt cheap, and u get ur own facilities unlike other hostels, plus it has a cool club downstairs complete with a pole to dance around on lol!
A: The Chocolata changed ownership which may be why you’ve had trouble. Below is a link to the coffee house including directions, maps and photos.
as it happens, this is one I’ve been to several times and it is a very good cafe
