Q: what is the most affordable way to travel to hawaii and then to australia for few days at each location?
Me and my husband are planning to travel to two location for our honeymoon next year… I will like to stay in Hawaii for a few days and he wants to go to australia…
A: world tour
http://worldstour.info/
Q: when is affordable and weather is good to travel to hawaii?
A: May is the best month that I have seen so far. I have been once in April, four times in early May, and last year in Sept.
The weather is stellar in May!!! It does seem more warmer in Sept, but when your in Hawaii, who cares????????
Q: When is the best time to travel to Hawaii?
I’m wanting to plan an affordable Hawaii trip for myself my husband and my 10 and 7yr old. We’ve never been there so i don’t even know which Island would be better for first timers? What Kind of activites could I plan for the kids that they would enjoy. Any Tips are greatly appreciated. O! and Anytime of the year is good as long as the wheater is nice over there. Please help. Thank you in advance.
A: The best time is spring and fall. Since you have kids, you will most likely have to restrict yourselves to the summer months. The best island for first timers is Oahu which is the most populated island. The kids will not be bored. Also, a rental car is a must on any island. You really restrict yourself and activities without one. The weather is nice all year and the ocean water ranges from 78-82 degrees. Avoid travelling on Friday and Saturday and you may save some money on airfares. Say no to anyone who appraoches you about tours and family pictures. If you want a tour book through your hotel or online prior to your arrival. Luaus are great fun with dinner, drinks and show.
Q: Affordable vacation in Hawaii?
I am planning to spend a month or two travelling the different islands of Hawaii. Since I am vacationing there for this long, I am looking for suggestions on how to save on accommodations, travel (rent a car v/s public transport), food etc. I have not traveled to Hawaii before and I do not know what is most expensive there. I will be traveling there with my family which includes my 2 and half year old son. I do not plan to surf or do many adventurous water activities:)
Another question – How easy or difficult is to go to the different islands? Can I make one island my living place and travel to the other ones on a daily basis? I think renting a hotel/car in every island can be more expensive than renting a condo in one and traveling to the rest of the islands…..
A: Inter island travel is by air and due to competition the prices are fairly low, usually in the $50 range each way.If you are on a budget,I’d suggest trying a bed and breakfast.I’ve found that there are many affordable ones on most of the islands and the hosts are really helpful in giving advice on things to do in their respective areas. On the island of Hawaii there is actually free bus transportation that goes around the entire island. These buses are subsidized by Hawaii county and are used by the locals ,but tourists are welcome also.Food can be expensive but if you shop around there are bargains to be had.On our island of Hawaii there are many farmers markets that have great food at reasonable prices.Fresh fruits and vegetables also.Markets in our area are usually open on the week end but there are others that open during the week also.In my opinion the island of Hawaii, particularly the Hilo side,is like old Hawaii, where Aloha is prevalent. On this island there are so many things to do.There are the beautiful beaches in Kona and along the Kohala coast.Waimea has paniolos (cowboys) and the best beef you’ll ever eat.A stop at Honokaa at Tex drivein,is a must for malasadas (Portuguese donuts) and they have inexpensive lunches.Beautiful drive along the Hamakua coast with many waterfalls and interesting old Hawaiian towns.Hilo is home to the Univ.of Hawaii-Hilo and has many attractions. The Kilueau volcano and Volcanoes Natl. Park are very interesting. The black sand beach at Punaluu is amazing. You can often find green sea turtles napping on the beach.I could go on…..but you get the idea.I love Hawaii! I live here and wouldn’t trade it for anywhere.Hope you can spend some time on our beautiful island and enjoy the slower pace away from Oahu.
Q: where can i get affordable flight to hawaii?
i’m going to honolulu from baltimore the end of may through june… i’m looking for the most affordable flight… it is going to be my family’s first vacation and i’m traveling with children.
A: I would look around on sites like Expedia and Travelocity. If you happen to catch them at the right time, you can get one heck of a deal. It doesn’t hurt to go to a particular Airline’s website and see what they have to offer. Finally, you might also want to check with a Travel Agent. He/She might be able to put together an affordable package for you and your family. There are plenty of options–now go do your homework.
Q: cool affordable places to travel?
I currently live in Kauai hawaii and love the tropical feeling, but I also love to travel, and I want to get a passport and see more. So where should I go where things will be affordable, and yet beautiful?
A: You should look into visiting Nepal. It is incredibly beautiful, and cheap.
Q: Affordable places to travel the day after Christmas? Also, things to do the day after Christmas in NYC?
My family has been discussing where we might want to go this Christmas so that we can start saving. We would be leaving the day **after** Christmas. My mom and sister have (unfortunately) said no to skiing, but aren’t totally opposed to the snow. I’ve been trying to maybe talk them into NYC, so what are some good things to do there after Christmas that won’t cost a fortune (like Broadway)?
Aside from NYC, what are some other good places to go? We can’t travel to Europe or Hawaii because of the cost, but the rest of North America is still possible as long as it is safe.
Also, please no Florida or Canada. Those ideas have already been shot down.
Also, I am underage and traveling with my parents and sister, so bars and clubs are out of the question, of course.
A: Perhaps the list of attractions will help.

Q: What is the most ‘affordable’ of the Hawaiian islands?
I’m thinking about visiting Hawaii in a couple of years (to have time to save up the money) but I’ve heard that they are very expensive. Which of the islands is the most affordable. I will be traveling with my husband and young child. We like the simple things in life like beaches and luaus, but not spa treatment type stuff. Any realistic suggestions? Thanks!
A: When it comes to hotels, food, car rentals, etc, they’re all equally expensive. However, there are ways to save money. If you’re not into spas, that will save a fair amount. There are four main islands to consider: O’ahu, Maui, Hawai’i (aka the Big Island) and Kauai. If you like beaches, the Big Island may not be the best choice. There are very few beaches compared to the other islands. Lots of lava rock, but not lots of sand. However, hiking at the Volcanoe National Park is great.
Kauai has some nice beaches & lots of great hiking, but it doesn’t have a lot of restaurant choices, so you have fewer lower priced places to eat. You also can’t cut across the island while driving & can’t drive all the way around, so getting from one side to the other for someplace to eat, swim etc can be time consuming. In addition, with the exception of the resort areas, a lot of places close early. However, the island is beautiful & worth a 3-4 day visit…or longer if you want lots of beach time.
O’ahu is the most “touristy” of the islands & has lots of options, especially in Waikiki, but that’s not true Hawaii. The North Shore is a much better bet for a closer picture to what Hawaii is really like. Deals are best found in Honolulu/Waikiki though, due to the volume of tourists visiting & the number of resorts. This is likely the destination for the cheapest airfare & hotel rooms. Nice beaches, especially on the North Shore & this is the best island for night life, if that interests.
I may be biased, but Maui is my favorite. Lots of great beaches, nice restaurants with some good deals to be found. You can get a condo & pick stuff up at Costco wight outside the airport much more reasonably than in the grocery stores (a gallon of milk in the store is $8!). There is good hiking on Maui as well. The Old Lahaina Luau (pricy) is the best on any island.
Check out the Maui Revealed, Kauai Revealed, etc guide books at your local bookstore to see which island best appeals to your interests. They are by far the best guidebooks on the Hawaiian islands – written by people who live there. Happy planning!
Q: I”m looking for an affordable tropical vacation for one – either hawaii or jamaica – that is secluded & cool
any suggestions? Most travel packages are based on 2 people…but I’m a solo mid 30s traveler…just looking to get away and relax.
A: i agree, why not get a friend to go along with you? Well, if that’s not your thing, and you want to be alone, there are a lot of options for singles. There are resorts, hotels, and even cruises for singles. You can find a lot of travel information on this website http://readyforvacation.com there you can get valuable information and even chat live with a travel professional regarding the perfect retreat for you. I hope this helps. And whatever your decision, enjoy yourself. Afterall, it is your vacation getaway!
Q: moving to Hawaii?
Help. I’ve lived in a small town all of my life (23 years) and I’ve been to many of the Hawaiian islands 8 times. I’m looking to make the first big real move of my life, but where do I start?. R places in Hawaii for recent college grads affordable? What about furniture and the DMV?. Should I bring my car along? If anyone could give my some advice on where I should start doing research that would be great. Also, I’d like to have a job waiting for me when I arrived, but I don’t exactly have the money to travel back and forth to Hawaii for interviews until I move there; plus all of the initial utility deposits I’ll have to put done. Anyone with experience moving across states… please answer. Any additional info on Hawaii for a college grad looking for work is greatly appreciated.
A: First look for jobs before you move. Indeed.com is a good source. It lists jobs from several websites. Also, contact container shipping companies if you want to move anything. It will take two or three months to ship anything and everything must be sealed in plastic. The shipping company will tell you that the container is watertight but it never is. I would take as little as possible. Also, if you do ship your car ask the shipping company about if you are able to put boxes or bags in for shipping. I noticed you are a college grad. If it is possible for you to take a teaching job consider it. Many hard to staff areas (like Hawaii) often offer incentives for teachers or medical staff to move. I know teachers who move to the Virgin Islands get moving bonuses to help offset costs because of the high demand for teachers there. Also, look into roomate matching services since I am asuming you are single. You can also call apartment complexes in the area you want to move and find out if they do roomate matching or pay utilities.
Q: Please help- knowlege of Hawaii living areas?
My boyfriend has been offered a job in Hawaii as a sales rep where he would be traveling from island to island so we could take our pick. We are both in our mid twentys, and i would most likely work in retail or as a bartender. We will most likely be moving within the next month. I would love any suggestions on where is affordable, safe places to live. Thanks so much in advance!
A: Congrats! That sounds like an awesome move!!

Q: University of Hawaii (Multiple Questions)?
-Is University of Hawaii at Hilo a credible college?
-Is the Hilo campus nice?
-Are the marine science programs better at Hilo or Manoa?
-Is it enjoyable to live in Hilo, Hawaii?
-How easy is it to travel from island to island in Hawaii?
-Do they tend to overlook applicants because they are from the mainland?
Thank you, I am actually only a junior in high school but I am beginning to look into colleges with affordable, credible marine science programs & the campus @ Hilo seems to be in my budget.
A: -Yes, UH Hilo is credible
-I’ve never visited the campus, but it is nice
-Both UH Hilo and Manoa are research based institutions, with some great science programs. As to which one has the better marine science program, I’m not sure.
-Hilo is pretty laid back. It does rain a lot.
-It’s kind of a pain travelling from island to island, considering the only way to get to each island is by plane. But it’s fun.
-No, colleges don’t (and shouldn’t) discriminate any applicant for any reason
Q: saving money in Hawaii?
I visited Hawaii in 2005. The hotel and plane was like on any other trip, EXPENSIVE. The plane expenses can’t be avoided, I understand that part. We spent about 4 or 5 hours in the hotel and paid ( of course ) for the entire day. We ate at various restaurant and travel most of the day. I noticed that we only sleep in the hotel for no more than the time above mentioned. My question is: anyone knows of a safe, clean and affordable place in Honolulu ?
A: Hotel prices are cheaper right now due to the recession. There are prices of around $70 a day that also has about 20% taxes on top of that. There are also vacation rentals (a friend just got a “studio” in a suburb that costs about the $70 rate, holds two people). There are also various hostels (Waikiki and Manoa) that are about $40 a day per person (so might as well have a hotel room).
Q: Are there any other cruises that go to Hawaii in the summer besides Norwegian?
I’mtrying to book a cruise to Hawaii durring the summer. I was going to book it with NCL, but my travel agent waited too long and now all the affordable rooms are taken. So are there any others out there that offer Hawaii servoce in the summer with a good itinerary? I saw one on Carnival, but it didn’t have a good itinerary. Even a privately owned small company would be great If not, is there anyway I might be able to squeeze onto the NCL ship at a decent fare? thanks
A: NCL is the only cruise line that does cruises that originate in the Hawaiian Islands and visit the various islands.
Royal Caribbean, Princess, and some of the others have been doings longer cruises that originate from L.A. or San Diego that go to Hawaii and back and visit Ensenada in order to meet the PSA requirements. But that may change if the PSA gets updated as planned.
Q: Destination wedding and limited guests?
My boyfriend and I have been talking about getting married in Hawaii. We really want to do that because It’s a bit cheaper to have a destination wedding there than it is to plan a big wedding where we live. We know for sure that we want our immediate families there, both sets of parents, siblings, and siblings families, plus 2 extra guests, for a total of about 21 people. His mother wants to have their entire extended family there, but we can’t afford that even if we wanted it. Would it be rude to just have our immediate families at the wedding in Hawaii? We were kind of planning on having a reception/barbeque back home for everyone that we’d invite if we had the wedding here. Is that a good idea?
Also, does anyone know some affordable places that we can get airline tickets/hotel/ etc.? We know we will be able to save up for the wedding itself, but after looking at a few travel websites last night, we’re looking at about 10,000 for just the 2 of us for Hawaii.
Some of our family members just filed for bankruptcy, so they wouldn’t really be able to come unless we found a really affordable deal for them to go.
A: I don’t think it’s rude at all to just invite immediate family. The extended family will understand! My bf and I will only have immediate family (8 total) at our destination wedding as well. Nobody will be offended because it’s not like you’re leaving just one or two people out – none of them are being invited.
Maybe you should tell your bf’s mom that you want a smaller, more intimate wedding with immediate family only. Then there’s no argument regarding money. The idea of having a reception or bbq when you get home is a great idea – anyone not invited to the wedding will be able to come and see your photos, etc.
Good luck!
