Q: When writing your time travel report, would Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, be a reliable source of info…?
This is to get my Ph.D in physics, I might add…
*Crickets Chirping*

A: What is that? A book? I don’t read fantasy…is it fantasy? Um… Um… but uh…sure, babe, sure…for your physics thesis, sure, sure…um… :D

Q: good book to read?!?! travel….?
I am 17 years old and I’m looking for books about any of the following:
-adventure/travel
-korea
-college/university life
-scholarships
-graduating high school
-foreign exchanges
-countries other than canada
-road trips

No fantasy/sci-fi please (i do read it, but thats not what im looking for right now). Teen/ Young-adult or adult fiction. Travel writing about Korea. Romance is good, basically a good book you’ve read recently.

I have already read HP, Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, 13 Little Blue Envelopes, Sarah Dessen, etc.
Friendship, adventure, etc.

A: A really good one is White Oleander by Janet Fitch. If you have seen the movie ignore that because the book is way better. Ive read alot of books, but this one is still one of my favs.

Q: Who Loves Adventure Traveling?
I’m always had a passion for travel and even more for journeying off the beaten path where you can see a country up close and personal.

I am writing a report on this at the moment and wanted to ask you a couple questions pertaining to the traits that best describes us as active adventure travelers.

I have listed the questions bellow:

1. What do you love most about traveling?

2. What are the things most important to you?

3. What are your pet peeves when it comes to traveling or other types of traveling?
For ex. traditional travel tours where you spend the majority of the trip sitting in a tour bus.

4. What’s the most important things in your life? What do you value the most?

5. Have you been mislead before with false promises and offers as they relate to travel?

6. What are your hobbies and things you enjoy doing?

7. When you go on a travel vacation what makes your trip truly remarkable and memorable?

Thanks a lot everyone for submitting your feedback. This will help me in

A: 1. I love to actually see places that I have only read about. Especially places that most “tourists” don’t go to.

2. See places as they are, not as they may be described by tour operators. Meet people as real people, not as someone who just wants to make money off any “ugly American” who happens along. (I always learn a little of the local language before going, which is truly hard for an adult, but it helps with bonding. I speak only about four words of Chinese, but I was once told in China that “my Chinese is excellent”, just because I tried.)

3. My major pet peeve is that most people who travel don’t know history, geography, or foreign languages, and come with a lot of prejudices built in. That’s why my husband and I travel alone where it is safe and possible to do so, and with adventure tours elsewhere. People who take adventure tours are usually quite a bit more interested in history, geography, foreign cultures, languages, and such.

4. What I value the most is to be kind, generous, patient, and to not harm others. The older I get, the more I believe that this is the best way to make your old age peaceful and calm.

5. No. We are very careful and check everything out.

6. Lots, but here is a partial list: Foreign languages and linguistics; animals; high altitude hiking and camping; sudoku; reading fiction and-non-fiction; finding out things I happen to want to know by searching the internet; being able to help others, especially family members who won’t admit to needing help.

7 Being able to put the trip together with things I’ve read and studied. For example, during our recent trip to Europe, I visited the places related to Hemma of Gurk, an Austrian saint who lived around 1,000 AD, including her grave. For my husband, an expert on W.W. I history, we visited a museum in Austria and one in Slovenia that had wonderful historical pictures.

Q: What would be a good title for an action/adventure series?
I’m writing an action/adventure series. It’s just for fun but I would still like a title, but I can’t think of one. It’s about an ex-marine, his fiancee and two of his children traveling the world looking for lost treasures of the world.

A: Well, if it’s a series, then I think the best titles for those mention the hero’s name and then a sort of sub-title, like, for example:

Michael Steele: The Bondage Bar Adventure

And then each successive volume would start with the hero’s name again and a different subtitle, or something like that.

Good luck!… ☺

Q: little known jobs that have an exciting edge?
So, I’m suppose to know what I want to be when I leave the college scene at the end of this semester *I’m currently a freshmen* I have NO clue what to do!!! There are soooo many options to look into and so many degrees! I want to do something that will never leave me bored and learning nothing new. Any ideas?

I love music, people, writing, travel, adventure, all sorts of stuff…need some clues though! thanks

A: Be a freelance writer. You can travel all over the world and submit your different articles to magazines, newspapers, etc. and get paid for it. It would combine all the passions you have above, except maybe music. I guess you could travel to concerts and write about them though too. So there you go.

Q: What’s an adventurous job that includes travel or the outdoors (or both?)?
My interests include music (I play guitar/write songs), writing, photography, travel, & teaching. My degree is in cross-cultural studies. I’m looking for an adventure/escape. A six or nine month commitment would be perfect. Any suggestions?

A: I feel that newspaper or magazine journalism can offer the adventures you’re looking for. If you can hook up with a publication that will send you out into the community to cover stories, that can be a wonderful job. You get to be outside the office, you get to meet all kinds of people, and if you’re good at it, you can influence the people in your community with your writing. You also get to see, firsthand, new things, events, or changes in the community.
If you wish to travel even farther, try doing travel journalism.

Q: Im writing a comedy/adventure story but i need a…..?
place 4 it to be set and something decent 4 it to be about i want it to be about a group of young teens who go on quests during there travels to find something

A: Try a small village with a really dense rainforrest nearby – anything can happen in a rainforrest . . . . :)

Q: So how do you make an adventure of life?
I’m getting ready to graduate from college in about a month in a half with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English (emphasis on editing/writing). I really want to travel the world, but I don’t want to wait till I’m retirement age to do it. On the other hand, to travel, I need money to travel, and to get money, obviously, I have to work. Work requires getting a job, and most people aren’t going to hire me for a few months simply to wait for me to build up enough money to go where I want. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to figure this dilemma out? Is it possible for someone my age to travel across the world and have the money to do so (barring radical circumstances like inheriting millions from some unknown uncle, winning the lottery or suing a cafe for burning myself on their coffee)?

A: You can start out with asking yourself where you want to go. Then, get a guide book and have a look at different travel/work opportunities. Also, because you are so young and just graduating college, you can also take a look at STA travel’s work programs also. Also, there are a lot of opportunities teaching English. And, while you do these things, you can work on writing articles for magazines or newspapers or doing some freelance editing to supplement your income. But, check out the round-the-world ticket feature at www.statravel.co.uk to get your blood going a little bit, and to let you see what your opportunities are. For a writer, experiencing a bigger life will only help to intensify your writing as well as give you a lot more interesting things to write about. Also, if you travel cheaply it doesn’t cost much at all. One of our favorite things to do is to rent houses in an inexpensive location (we’ve lived in Peru and Uruguay in the last year) and stick around for a while, getting to know the place and people in depth. Traveling is great, but often you only get to scratch the surface. Living someplace for a few months is cheaper and lets you really get into the place and people.

Q: How much does a travel writer get paid?
Just for people who dont know, a travel writer is a person that works for a travel magazine and he/she gets to go around all over the world or country and write about their stay and their adventures and stuff. That is what i want to be when i get older, so i wanted to know what degree i have to get and how much does it pay? Thanks!

A: If you own a degree – or any other qualification – then you’ll already be ahead of the crowd when it comes to hunting for professions. My buddy has a degree and he wasn’t sure what direction to go with it, but he stumbled upon some excellent tips on the resource in the resource box below which aided him to decide that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is lots of help on the resource regarding other professions.

Q: How to travel from Chile to Panama without Air planes ?
Describe exactly how , also write how much will such adventure cost ?

A: You first need to take a bus to Cartegena, Columbia, which is on the Caribbean coast. There you can find sailboats that travel back and fourth to San Blas, Panama. The journey is 3-6 days and costs usually between 200-500 USD. From San Blas islands you would either take a small plane to the mainland (for about $35) or the ferry which is much slower and takes you to the mainland. From the mainland you would want to arrange a taxi to take you to Panama City; and from there, you are at the hub to go wherever you wish in Panama! (I recommend Bocas del Toro!) This way is great! I have met tons of people who have done it and had an absolutely incredible time sailing! Have fun!

Q: Help Me Find A Book About Travel!?
I’m looking for a book written by someone who went to a different country or went on some adventure, and wrote a book about their adventure.

there was a writer from NG ho wrote about his travels to Alaska :3

A: http://www.amazon.com
I’m not sure what “NG” stands for, so at Amazon, I first looked for any such travel from both Nigeria and New Guinea. Couldn’t find one.

I do know that one of my favorite travel writers (who also travels – a lot) is John McPhee.
He wrote a few books about Alaska (and many more places) but one called “Coming Into the Country” is very popular.
I read lots by McPhee myself and find him a great writer, usually about his adventures all over the world.
I noted the book mentioned above while searching for an adventurer who went to Alaska. There are many who wrote some fine books about adventuring in Alaska.

I most liked what I saw in “The Final Frontiersman: Heimo Korth and His Family, Alone in Alaska’s Wilderness” by James Campbell, ‘04.
This is a family of one white man, his Abasantha [sp] wife and their daughter plus their friend, Campbell, who visits them now and then. That looked very good.

“Lonely Planet” travel books are always the most highly rated by readers at Amazon, as opposed to travel books by Fodor or Frommer.
And of course there is always National Geographic (who popped up in response to “NG”) who put out a book in ‘07 called “Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Greatest Trips.” (eh…)

Better reviews are given to David Nolan, who wrote a few travel books, but I read about this one thoroughly…
“Travels Along the Edge: 40 Ultimate Adventures for the Modern Nomad–From Crossing the Sahara to Bicycling in Vietnam.”
Nolan has done all these things himself, of course.
The book is broken down to categories: “…on foot… by water… by rail… plane…” etc.

Am not entirely sure what you’re looking for, but you’ll find many travel and adventure books at Amazon; safe link.

Q: Information on English novels / depictions of the Far East and Orient?
Hi, I am interested in learning more about depictions or visions of the orient/china/far east in English literature. If anyone knows of any english writers or novelists who have written about the orient and the exotic please help! Preferably looking at 17th and 18th century literature and conceptions of China either in fiction or adventure travel documents. Any material will help. Many Thanks!

A: ‘Seven Years in Tibet’ by Heinrich Harrer (but it’s from ‘53) – a book I read once and discovered had so little dialog I must have missed it altogether.
Definitely an adventure/travel book, however, by one of the first explorers of Tibet.
It was good, I finished it happily enough.

http://www.gutenberg.org
At Project Gutenberg, I put ‘ancient China’ in the ‘term’ search box at the left, underneath the title and author boxes, and saw these there, ready to read or download:

‘A Forgotten Empire (Vijayanagar): a compilation of the history of India’ by Paes and Nanos, written in the 16th century; doubt they’re English, but it’s translated.

‘Myths and Legends of China’ by Warner, 1864-1954.

‘Ancient Ballads and Legends of Hindustan’ by Dodd, 1856-1877.

Others are either a bit too old for your purpose, too new, or not fiction or adventure at all. Lots of ‘religious/paganism’ books, many quite old.

More fiction and/or travel and adventure, like books by Pearl Buck and other English-language writers are more recent, and you can likely find those at the desk of a reference librarian very easily.

Sounds interesting, this reach back in time.

Q: Paper Revision Help!?
You never really know me unless you know my dreams. They are a huge part of who I am, they help define me. I dream of traveling, adventuring, and discovering. I dream of traveling all around the world. I dream of having new adventures each day. I dream of discovering and experiencing as many different things as I can. However these more than just dreams to me, they are goals. I fully intend on making all my dreams realities, and will never give up on any of them.

Traveling is what I am most passionate about. I love going new places and seeing new things. Each country, region, and city has many different things to offer, and tons of people to meet. The new and unknown fascinates me. While at North Carolina State University to help achieve some of my traveling desirers I plan on studying abroad in the United Kingdom. Then once I have acquired my bachelors in Anthropology, I plan on joining the Peace Corps. After my two years with them, I will return to North Carolina State University to get my masters in Anthropology. This will only be the beginning of my traveling experiences.

I seek for new adventures every day. The best thing about them is one can be found right in your own backyard. As long I am doing something new and different it is an adventure to me. But I dream of having more adventure in my life then these backyard adventures. I want to have adventures of a lifetime. Go places not everyone gets to go. See things that not everyone gets to see. Hopefully my career, desire, and will power will help me reach these dreams.

My love for travel and adventure goes right in hand with my love to discover and experience new things. Different cultures fascinate me. When I travel I don’t want to be just another tourist, I want to live like the people, live a day in their shoes. I don’t want to just see things I want to feel them, truly be a part of their culture. I want to experience and discover as much as I can, while I can. This again ties in with my future career. With Anthropology I am able to do all this.

I am about to start my first big adventure, college. This will then take me on to fulfill all my dreams of adventure, travel, and discovering.

Writing is deff not my strong point. Any help is greatly appreciated. (oh and the last paragraph isnt finished obviously. lol)

A: Give examples of backyard adventures, how you handled them. A statement of purpose needs some of the subjects that you studied earlier and that are related to Anthropology like moral science that talks about people and ethics or history that talks about people and their ways say Hitler, Napolean et al.

Q: what are some things you’ve learned about life?
its pretty broad question. just life lessons that you’ve learned and how you learned them. what was the point that made you notice it. or when did it happen. I’ve learned a lot of life lessons. im just a regular girl, living a regular life but i’ve learned that
1,don’t be normal,do things that other people wouldn’t do because that’s what makes you yourself, it differentiates you from the rest of the world.

2, go out and Live life. seriously. dont sit at home obsessing over one thing. like i do. go out and enjoy what life has to give you. try new things. make new friends. have a good time. do what you wanna do. you control your life, not FATE, not everybody around you. YOU control your life.

3. being happy is a choice. like stated just a second ago. do things that make you happy. and you will be happy, be positive. and take a break once in a while.

4. beauty is skin deep. everyone keeps saying this but it is absolutly 100% TRUE! personality and your brain matter alot more then what brands your wearing. or where you buy your clothes. it really doesnt matter what you look like as long as you’re clean and put together.

5. education is important. speaks for itself.

6. dont do stupid things. like drugs, or getting pregnant young. i havent experienced this but im sure everyone who did sorta regrets it. im assuming.

7. once you get out into the real world it wont matter who you hung out with in highschool or middle school. it all gets erased and they rely on how smart you are.

8. alot of guys throughout the ages of middle school to highschool are alot about titts and ass. BUT, BUTTTTT you can find alot of nice guys who are willing to put that aside and love you for who you are. just dont go after them. its a well known fact that guys always come after girls. girls please just dont go after them. it makes you look horrible. and desperate.

9. organize your life, make it balanced. take a class or do things your interested in like any type of dance, yoga, book clubs, adventure trips, traveling, writing, reading, music, sports or anything you like. just do things you love. andd

10. you are w.e you want to be, in life you are born a certain person and you have to work hard to become the person you want to be. you dont need to change you just gotta mix the old with the new and balance everything out. your love life with your family, with your time by yourself, to being creative, to education, and w.e you have in your life. its yours, its art. make it beautiful. its a blank page with your picture on it. workk that picture. :)

and thats basically from experience . soooo what are your life lessons you’d like to share, i actually spent time on that so please spend alittle time on yours:) THANKS!

A: …it’s not like a box of chocolates…

Q: what is the scope of PG Diploma in Travel & Tourism Management from Kuoni Academy of Travel India?
32 old year graduate working in Adventure Tourism field from last 6 years. would like to get an entry in a good travel agency. in delhi..so would like to pursue a PG Diploma from Kuoni Academy of Travel, Delhi, India. i m good at preparing itineraries, travel write-ups, field work and e-marketing.
Do Age matter in doing course and getting a job!!!! any hindrance???

A: Your success depends upon your mental ability and your way of approaching towards the outer world. Learning has nothing to do with age at all and looking at education as a source for enhancing job prospects is not always helpful.

You should enhance your education and keep continuing it in your entire life. Education never ends it is just our perception which makes us think that now after taking this degree or that diploma u don’t have to study and this is something which forces us to land up with frustration.

I personally suggest you to go ahead with the PG Diploma and on other side you should try to go for Master’s degree in Tourism Management offered by IGNOU. That’s a good program. Keep working and keep updating your education and good luck for you future. I have studied intensively in India and Canada and I can tell you that education is big tool.
