Q: Trying to order AAA Tour Books & Maps?
Would like to order several tour books and maps from AAA.
The AAA site tells me to do the following:
“Select the publications that are relevant to your trip, and then click Continue with order at the bottom of the page. To select multiple publications from the lists below, hold down the Control key on a PC (Ctrl), or the Apple key on a Mac, before selecting”
Nothing happens when I use the Control key.

Additional info to my earlier question based on the two answers provided:
When I hit the control key it won’t even allow me to highlight any of the publications. I am able to highlight one if I don’t use the control key.
…..which brings me to another question…I tried to put additional info in my question but when I clicked on pencil to add more details it blanked out my original details comments so I had to recreate the question.
Oops, ignore earlier comment about losing details. Just realized they were still there after I added additional comments.
A: Did you hold Ctrl down while clicking on each and every one of your selections? You cannot then click anywhere else on the page prior to clicking “Continue…”
Q: Are travel guides and maps free at AAA?
if I’m a member? I’m going to Europe this summer and I need maps and travel guides. My dad said they were for free at AAA if I’m a member. Is that true? Thanks in advnace! =)))
A: Yes. It is true if you have road side service (which generally means your a member). However, for Europe maps, you’ll have to speak to a representative who will get them from the back. They are not available in the map dispensers. They have both tour guides, which include hotels, restaurants, and local hot spots, and the standard maps.
Good luck and have fun!!!!
Q: What does AAA offer that is not offered through my insurer’s emergency road service?
For two adults on two cars, basic AAA is more expensive by $30 (or $50, I can’t remember) than getting emergency road service from my insurer, and AAA Plus is considerably more. I don’t know, however, whether the coverage is essentially the same. The insurance appears to cover some towing and up to one hour of onsite labor (to replace a flat, I assume).
I like AAA’s maps and Triptiks, but I’m likely to buy a GPS soon (any suggestions under $400?) and do a lot of online travel research, so those benefits are diminishing in value.
Thanks for your thoughts.
A: Not much really, other than the maps and trip planning and discounts they give. With towing on your insurance, you pick whatever tow company you want that can respond quickly to your emergency, and sometimes you would have to pay directly and then get reimbursed by your insurance company. Some towing companies have a relationship with the insurer and bill direct on your signature. (Gieco for example allows that, as does State Farm, there may be others.)
When you call AAA they send their preferred tow company, and you may have a bit of a wait in front of you. As a towing service, I refuse to do AAA, and the other tow company which does won’t do AAA as a priority, so if he has something else to do, you will just wait. Of course, once he gets there, just sign and it’s over.
If you want maps and travel information, there are plenty of Internet sites. mapquest for example.
As to GPS units, have a look here: http://ask.pricegrabber.com/search.php?form_keyword=gps+units&tls=1
Q: In a AAA map of Ohio, 1 inch equals approximately 10 miles or 18 kilometers. If the distance on the map betwe?
A: is x multiply x by 10 for miles or 18 for kilometers???
Q: Should you believe maps, Mapquest, your GPS and the AAA, or some guy at the side of the road?
If you’re traveling somewhere, and you have reasonable information about where you’ll end up if you follow a certain route, should you believe that or should you listen to some guy who tells you that the road you’re on will lead you to a fiery pit, even though he has nothing to prove that he’s right?
And, if you do actually end up in a fiery pit, is it your fault for following reasonable advice when whoever put the pit there didn’t see fit to prove to you that the pit was there, or give verifiable warnings that you should take another route?
Hope this isn’t too obtuse.
Edit to elyon: You’re right, following government-issued maps would eb the best way to go. Certainly better than a map some guy gives you which he says was made by the maker of the road, even though he has nothing to indicate that it was.
A: I looked up my brother’s house in Pennsylvania once on map-quest, and they said he lived about 300 yards down the road from where he actually lived!
Q: DId Clinton’s Emissary to the Canadians only Ask for AAA road map? Obama’s took the bait?
Will Obama’s staff ask for Clinton’s travel itinerary?
Would that be proof of being setup?
A: Who knows?
Q: How much would it cost me on gas from Washington State to Florida?
I’m fixing another roadtrip (my second one) across the country this summer and I’m really excited about it.I do enjoy long distance travel by car even though other people don’t, and they’d rather fly instead.I’ll be stopping in 7 cities for food and hotel accommodations.I won’t be driving at night since the roadtrip purpose is to see the country and I don’t want to miss anything.my music CDs and a AAA map will be my traveling companion and I’ll be driving a Budget’s rental car. Thanks!
A: It is around 3,200 miles and will take about 2 full days of road time. Not likely that you’ll be driving 48 hours without stopping nor will you go in a straight line. Budget for 3,500 miles at what ever your per mile average is. For example if you get 25 mpg then the 3,500 miles will take 140 gallons of gas. The way the cost is going up you might as well make the math easy and use $3 per gallon for fuel. That would make it $420 one way.
Q: Anyone else feel cheated that you can’t see the Nazca drawings on Google Earth?
Their locations are marked but its all low res photos.
Can see them better with a AAA map.
A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazca_Lines
Here are some really neat pictures of them. Google will eventually fix their resolution and produce better images. Give them time.

Q: Does AAA sell the CA road map?
I need this for my class. When I come to ask AAA, they ask me if I am a member..i said no and then they said no , we don’t.
does it mean i have to be a member to buy the map?
A: do you know anyone who has aaa they can get a map for you did you ask if they sell one with out being a member if not go to book store they sell them for all the states
Q: I am very unhappy with my AAA membership?
I have had nothing but bad experiences recently with the service provided to me by AAA of Az. and what to know if there are other companies that can provide the same service. It’s basically just the road side assistance I am looking for. Map-Quest fits the bill for the other things AAA used to do.
A: how about State Farm?
Q: where can i get free maps?
where can i get free maps sent to me???? we are going on a trip from california to nevada to idaho to montana back to california. we need maps of each state.we dont have a printer. and we dont have AAA. thank you!!
A: Visit each states website. Most info is free and will be mailed to you if you have time. Enjoy !
Q: I would like to find out about the nearest AAA classes in Long Beach CA.?
The locations, times, and maps will be helpful.
A: Did you look in the yellow pages? I’m sure there is some listed in there.
Q: GOIN to Houston from Denver which website is the best for driving directions?
Yahoo, Google, map Quest or AAA which do you prefer I have heard many different things so maybe someone that has taken the trip before or even knows which website to recommend. Please only if you know what you are talking about thanks alot
A: My friend & I traveled from Houston to Denver last winter & we used Google maps with no problems.
http://www.google.com/
Q: Now that we have GPS, MapQuest, Google, and CitySearch?
do you still use the old fashioned Rand McNally maps, AAA Triptiks, and state map guides?
we are going on a family road trip and I think a map would be a good experience for the children to use while we drive.
A: I typically use both modern electronic/digital maps and traditional print maps. GPS is very convenient, but loss of signal during storms or being ‘out of range’ can be a pain, so a hard copy map is handy as a back up. Google, Yahoo, and MapQuest are nice, I really like the feature that shows nearby restaurants, etc.; but these maps can be incorrect. So; I’ll pick up a State map as a back up. I haven’t used a AAA TripTik for two years; these maps are fun, but they are huge…..I can access AAA online; and so I can now do an electronic TripTik.
Lena I think carrying and using print maps is a skill that should be encouraged! It might be fun if each kid who is traveling with you has his or her own map and maybe even a simple compass. The kids and the adults could ‘map out the route’, and maybe even make little notes on the maps. Older kids could even help figure out fuel consumption; how many miles per gallon you are getting (math skills!).
My husband and I have done “orienteering” courses/paths a couple of times; you use a map and compass to follow a trail and then record the time it took to finish. You all could plot an course and have the kids follow along with their maps and compasses.
Have fun.
